Oct 28: Weekly Updates

We welcome diversity. We commit to undo racism and all other oppressions in ourselves, our church,

and our community.

"While it is important to love others unselfishly, it is crucial to find a balance. When we compromise our needs and martyr ourselves to the point of depleting ourselves and neglecting our needs, we become out of balance.
Jessica Minty

How to Give to the Church

You are asked to use our credit card service (which can be reached by the link or the On-line Giving button on our website), the very easy to use Text-to-Give (1-833-361-5796), or checks may be sent to the office. The on-line giving gives you the option to identify the contribution and use the memo line for checks. A tutorial video on Text-to-Give is here. After setting up an initial “profile” these options are easy to use for subsequent donations.
COVID Guidelines

"Indoor gatherings are not currently allowed at UUCT. COVIDActNow has assigned Pima County a "Very High" Risk Level as of today, October 28. Once Pima County has been at "High" for 7 consecutive days, indoor gatherings will be permitted."

Congregational Meeting

A virtual Congregational Meeting is set for November 14 after service to learn more about the HVAC replacement, bathroom remodel, and ramp to lower stage project. We need you to make a quorum so we can vote to authorize a fund drive to pay for these needed improvements. The details are on the website at:https://uuctucson.org/

(That is our 50 year old cooler in the photo. It is too tired to work anymore. Help us say good bye, and find the resources to replace it, and improve other areas of needed upgrades in our sanctuary. )

ANGEL HEART
HOLIDAY KIDS PAJAMA DRIVE

UUCT will be supporting the Angel Heart Pajamas Project with a Holiday kids’ new pajama drive. By the end of 2021, Angel Heart will have delivered 35,000 new pajamas – supporting eighty different agencies in Tucson who provide services for needy children. Angel Heart Pajama Project has been chosen as a UUCT Share the Plate recipient for 2022.

While all new pajamas are welcome, they have a need for older boys and girls’ pajamas- sizes medium and up. Many young teenagers are being removed from the home because of the increase in domestic violence in Tucson. Let’s all put one pair of pajamas on our Christmas list to support a Tucson child in crisis.

We have different drop-off options this year. Please put the PJs in a bag with your name.
Church drop off:
·        Every Tuesday morning from 8:00-9:00AM

Nov 11, 2021: Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd, 2020
Discussion leader: Sally R
Did Jesus Ever Tie the Knot? A New Novel Considers the Question.
“Kidd’s bold narrative revisionism allows her protagonist to be in every respect the equal of her husband while posing this question: How would Western culture be different if men and women had grown in appreciation of each other’s spirit? It’s not such a leap—the gospels portray Jesus gently championing women.” —O, The Oprah Magazine

Dec 9, 2021: Henry Ossian Flipper: West Point's First Black Graduate by Jane Eppinga, 1996
Discussion leader: Diana B

This book was recommended to Diana by the late Winn Bundy, owner of the Singing Winds bookstore in Benson AZ. “The literary center of the universe is supposed to be in New York, but here was this shining light of the literary world living and working on a ranch outside Benson, Arizona,” said J.A. Jance. Bundy earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the UA in 1956 and later master’s degrees in history and library science.

We meet the second Thursday of each month via Zoom Meeting opens by 9:20am, book discussion starts at 9:30am.
