Baja 4: Stronger Together

Unitarian Universalists from across Southeast Arizona

Religious Education News

Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. – Malcolm X

We are the Baja 4!

Representing Unitarian Universalists across southeastern Arizona, we love beyond belief and find inspiration from a wide array of spiritual, religious, and secular sources. We come together as a Baja 4 because we know we are stronger together.

Meet the Baja 4 Team

In the coming weeks, we'll introduce you to the team putting together our programs for the Baja 4.

Hi friends! I'm Jamili (Ja-mee-lee), the Director of Lifespan Faith Development at the UU Church of Tucson, and now on the team of the Baja 4. I moved to Tucson in 2016 and joined the UUCT family in 2017. You've likely met my two children in the online worship.

If you were a superhero, who would you be?

LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow. He is most definitely a superhero.

What is an easy way to do something nice for someone?

In my household, the easy way is to bring someone chocolate! Hugs, kind words, sharing your things, or giving someone an honest compliment are all ways to do nice things.

We Are a People of Renewal

Our theme in worship and RE this month is "Renewal." What are we renewing? Where in your life do you feel the need for renewal (like getting more sleep?) and where do you feel full up? What commitments are you willing to renew and which do you need to let go? Our resources this month ask us to think about Renewal in terms of our commitments to our communities, to our churches, to each other, and to ourselves. Let's explore!

Chalice Lighting to Share

Every Endeavor Begins With a First Step (adapted)

By Charles F Flagg

Every endeavor begins with a first step,

And encounters difficulty along the way.

We know the anguish of ignorance, of fear, and of tyranny.

Yet we know the beginnings of hope, and the renewal of life.

Blessed be the eternal power which inspires us to kindle this light.

Blessed be the source of light and of life. Amen.

What happened to the lost Kingdom of Kush? by Geoff Emberling

Along the Nile River, in what is now northern Sudan, lay the ancient civilization of Kush. Though they were once conquered by a powerful neighbor, the kings and queens of Kush would go on to successfully challenge two of the most dominant empires in history: the Egyptians and the Romans. So what happened to this African kingdom? Geoff Emberling details the rise and fall of the Kush empire.

Review:https://www.commonsensemedia.org/app-reviews/who-am-i-race-awareness-game

There are conversation tips between rounds. The important part of this game is to “act as a catalyst for meaningful discussions between parents and children about race, ethnicity, and culture. It contains photographs and personal quotes from a wide selection of real people.”
