Worship and Special Announcements

Sunday Worship, October, 2021:

Renewal
Our theme in worship and RE this month is "Renewal." What are we renewing? Where in your life do you feel the need for renewal (like getting more sleep?) and where do you feel full up? What commitments are you willing to renew and which do you need to let go?Our resources this month ask us to think about Renewal in terms of our commitments to our communities, to our churches, to each other, and to ourselves. Let's explore!

How to Give to the Church

You are asked to use our credit card service (which can be reached by the link or the On-line Giving button on our website), the very easy to use Text-to-Give (1-833-361-5796), or checks sent to the office. The on-line giving gives you the option to identify the contribution and use the memo line for checks. A tutorial video on Text-to-Give is here. After setting up an initial “profile” these options are easy to use for subsequent donations.

COVID Guidelines

Rev. Bethany emailed you all UUCT's new guidelines for gathering in COVID recently. They are available on the website here (https://uuctucson.org/116-announce/5301-covid-gathering-guidelines.html). These guidelines will allow indoor gatherings once we have been at a "High" Risk Level on COVIDActNow for 7 consecutive days. Masking and social distancing is still required when on UUCT's property. As of yesterday, Pima County has been at High for 3 consecutive days. For now, only outdoor gatherings are permitted.

Oct 14, 2021: Breathe: A Letter to My Sons by Imani Perry, 2019
Discussion leader: Beth B
“In Breathe, Perry offers a lyrical meditation that connects a painful, proud history of African American struggle with a clarion call for present-day action to protect, defend, and celebrate the promise of the next generation.”
—Stacey Abrams, founder and chair of Fair Fight Action, Inc.

Nov 11, 2021: Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd, 2020
Discussion leader: Sally R
Did Jesus Ever Tie the Knot? A New Novel Considers the Question.
“Kidd’s bold narrative revisionism allows her protagonist to be in every respect the equal of her husband while posing this question: How would Western culture be different if men and women had grown in appreciation of each other’s spirit? It’s not such a leap—the gospels portray Jesus gently championing women.” —O, The Oprah Magazine

Dec 9, 2021: Henry Ossian Flipper: West Point's First Black Graduate by Jane Eppinga, 1996
Discussion leader: Diana B

This book was recommended to Diana by the late Winn Bundy, owner of the Singing Winds bookstore in Benson AZ. “The literary center of the universe is supposed to be in New York, but here was this shining light of the literary world living and working on a ranch outside Benson, Arizona,” said J.A. Jance. Bundy earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the UA in 1956 and later master’s degrees in history and library science.

We meet the second Thursday of each month via Zoom Meeting opens by 9:20am, book discussion starts at 9:30am.
