Baja 4: Stronger Together Unitarian Universalists from across Southeast Arizona

Representing Unitarian Universalists across southeastern Arizona, we love beyond belief and find inspiration from a wide array of spiritual, religious, and secular sources. We come together as a Baja 4 because we know we are stronger together.

Stories
Our theme in worship and RE this month is Stories. We tell ourselves who we are and what we value through stories. What does your family value? Who are the heroes in your stories? How can we tell stories that encourage our children to be the heroes as their own stories?

Chalice Lighting to Share
A New Story Into Being
Rev. Dr. David Breeden

We tender this flame, opening the book,
turning to a page yet to be written.
Opening a story yet to be told.

May we fill this fresh page wisely.
May we write a new story into being.
May we together inscribe the page with hope.

No Mirrors in My Nana's House
by Ysaye M. Barnwell

Share a story together. “There are no mirrors in my Nana's house. No mirrors to reflect the cracks in the wall, the clothes that don't fit, the trash in the hallway. No mirrors. But there is love. The beauty in this child's world is in her Nana's eyes. It's like the rising of the sun...” This version includes the song sung by Sweet Honey in the Rock!.

Our worship this week includes this story about a school where diversity is cherished. Share the story again here and then consider these questions:

● Is our church a place where all are welcomed?
● What would make our time together feel even more welcoming?
● How can we be welcoming?

UU congregations share a lot of attributes, but at the same time, no two UU communities are the same. And often their uniqueness is rooted in a very particular event in their history: a fire, an act of justice, a new building, creating a memorial garden, an argument even or a church member who became famous. Story is what keeps that event alive, and even more importantly, story is what enables that event to become the glue that binds the community together.

PS. Have you joined the Parenting Club group on Facebook? Everyone in the Baja 4 is welcome!
