During 2009 - 2010, UUCT has modified and enhanced its Share the Plate program to make it more relevant and more participatory and to encourage everyone in the congregation to put their own faith into action in several different ways.
As in the past, on the fourth Sunday of each month, half of the non-pledge money collected in the baskets during the offering will go to a non-profit, social service organization in the Tucson area.
This year, however, on the Sunday preceding the Share the Plate collection, we'll have a representative of the organization as our Sunday Speaker after church to help us learn more about the goals of the organization, the benefits it provides to our community, and the opportunities available to support it for those interested in the work it does. That way, our giving on the following week will be more informed.
Also, when possible, each month we'll organize intergenerational volunteer opportunities related to that organization for members and families on a one-time basis, either here at the church or at the organization's headquarters. This allows those with a special interest in the organization to participate in a hands-on way and gives an option to those who may not be able to afford a monetary contribution but who want to help in another way.
Below is the 2009 - 2010 Share the Plate schedule. Monthly volunteer activities will be announced in the congregation newsletter, The Tucsonitarian.
