The meeting was called to order at 7:10pm by Fran Brazzell, on February 24th, 2009.
Opening by Rev. Diane Dowgiert
- Reading on Lent; “Beginners”.

MSP Minutes from the January 27th, 2009 Board Meeting were approved.
Discussion of posting the approved BOT meeting minutes on the web site and on the BOT bulletin board. Chuck Lundstrom will ensure that this occurs monthly.
Empowerment Team: by Rev. Diane Dowgiert
- Littering Charge – Walt Staton was charged.
- An example of civil initiative in action.
- Occurred on the wild life refuge.
- The officials are preventing NMD from helping the people crossing this area.
- March 3rd is the pre trial hearing.
- Would like as many people as possible to be there.
- We are in the process of revising the agreement between UUCT and NMD to clarify ehicles, employees and protecting UUCT’s tax-exempt status.
- UUCT policies apply to NMD.
- Josie Hartman has been hired as the new Office Manager.
- Started last Tuesday. February 17th 2009.
NMD: by Linda Selser.
- Finance Committee questions from a previous board meeting. Linda will be posting FAQ on the web site.
Grants: by Linda Selser.
- Still exploring this, more for next month.
- Chalice Lighters; this is a great opportunity for additional grant money if a few more member would commit to be Chalice Lighters.
Follow up for program goal number 4:
- No scholarships have been created.
- We are doing fair share during the Stewardship Campaign.
- Only one member of UUCT is involved at a regional/national level.
PSWD Leadership Development:
UUA Presidential Election: by Fran Brazzell
- Process for congregations to vote.
- As a board review the candidates for recommendations at the annual meeting.
- Only delegates that are present may vote.
- UUCT has a number of delegates based on membership.
- Primarily determining how the absentee ballots will be directed.
Finance Reports: by Carolyn Cooper
- Margo Garcia has been approved by the Finance Committee as the Treasurer effective April 1st 2009.
- Marya Wheeler will be training Margo Garcia for the months of April and May 2009 and will finish the duties of Treasurer on June 1st 2009.
The authorized signers on the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson's financial accounts are:
- Carolyn Cooper, Finance Committee Chair of UUCT
- Fran Brazzell, Board of Trustee Chair of UUCT
- Margot Garcia, Treasurer of UUCT
Marya Wheeler, former Treasurer, is to be removed as a signer from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson's financial accounts.
- FC is concerned about cash flow over the summer. ET and the FC will develop a plan.
- FC will send out the policies for the Ministers Discretionary Fund.
- Pledges are at $242K trying for $336K, hoping for $80K more.
- In order to have a budget approved at the next BOT there needs to be a lot of discussion between now and then.
- Annual meeting April 26th.
- Would the BOT be able to meet between now and the next scheduled BOT meeting?
- Yes, if the BOT needs to make the hard decisions, an emergency meeting will be called.
- If the budget does not match the vision, the BOT needs to reconsider options.

- Town hall
- Fran will be bringing together an agenda.
- Strategic plan revision.
- Covenant of right relations?
- By laws changes.

- More of an announcement than a discussion item.
- Slate of UUCT officers for 2009-10.
- NMD update?
- Chalice lighters?
- Will send it out for us to review before March BOT meeting.
- Need to announce Town Hall in the news letter.
- Town hall will be a preview of the Annual Meeting.
MSP: The BOT moves to name David Johnson as Minister Emiratis at Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson.
